The Kennel Club categorises the chihuahua as a member of the Toy Group
The chihuahua is the smallest dog in the world. With some of the smallest weighing in at only 0.5 kilos.
The chihuahua was bred as a lap dog, it was thought in ancient times that the chi was also used to keep his owner warm. They are constant companions,and even today it is quite common for pet chi,s to sleep in bed with their owners . They love cuddles and enjoy being with their owners all the time

Chihuahuas are very easily trained they are very intelligent and learn very quickly.
There are many theories as to the origin of the chihuahua, we know that the modern day chihuahua gets it name from Mexico's largest state - Chihuahua.
Chihuahuas are bred with both smooth and long coats. They come in array of colours both in solid markings and splashes of colour are both accepted in the breed.
Chihuahuas are extremely adaptable to all space sizes they make excellent pets for any size living quarters and in most climates of the world. (although they do hate the cold and rain)

Chihuahuas require little grooming and not much space for excersize they make excellent pets for the disabled and elderly. They do require lots of attention and lots of TLC.
Chihuahuas are excellent watch dogs. Their hearing is acute and the bark is loud and piercing. They will scare off burglars. They have been known to warn their owners of eminent danger.
