| Q: |
Do Chihuahuas have a hole in their head? |
| A: |
Some Chihuahuas do have a small hole in their head it is called a molera. The Molera was once common place in Chihuahuas and in fact was once recognised in the breed standard. Today however breeders are trying to breed this feature out of the Chihuahua. The molera is more common in Chihuahua's with overly pronounced foreheads. The molera is not dangerous but it does make the chi more susceptible to ailments like hydrocephalous(water on the brain). [Back to top] |

| Q: |
Do Chihuahuas need exercise? |
| A: |
Chi's are very adaptable, but like us they are individuals, I can say from experience that some chi's will enjoy as much exercise as you can give them. There are others (like Casper) that are happy to sleep on your lap all day. Use your judgement. [Back to top] |

| Q: |
Do they need lots of grooming? |
| A: |
Chi's do not need a lot of grooming, either the long or the smooth coats. A good brush twice a week would suffice. Chi's do not need to be taken to the groomers for special coat clipping, you may want to regularly have their nails clipped regularly. Keep their eyes clean, by wiping them with a weak saline solution on some cotton wool. Their large eyes are prone to tear stains under the eyes. (not to be confused with eye infections). | Q: |
Are they Hard to Feed? |
| A: |
Chihuahuas are not hard to feed, they will eat just about anything, they love plate scraps, apples, and pasta they will eat almost anything, It is sensible to give your chi a balanced diet with a good complete dog food, if he doesn't eat it its because he isn't hungry enough. [Back to top] |

| Q: |
What are teacup Chihuahuas? |
| A: |
This is mainly an American term, Teacups are just very small Chihuahuas usually under 3lbs in weight. They are not a different strain of Chihuahua. If you are told by a breeder that they breed only this type be suspicious it's probably a way of asking a higher price for their pups. Remember the smaller the Chihuahuas the more health problems than larger healthier dogs. [Back to top] |

| Q: |
My puppies parents are smooth cat but my puppy is a long coat is it still a pedigree and how is this possible? |
| A: |
Yes your dog is still a pedigree. So as not to bore you with the finer points of genetics I will simplify if for you smooth coats are able to produce longcoat puppies on occasions, it is not frequent but it does happen. The same does not apply to longcoats though, if you are told that two longcoats have bred a smoothcoat, an accident has happened somewhere with a smooth dog that no one knew of as this is a genetic impossibility. So in short yes it is possible, and your dog is still a pedigree.

Why does my chihuahua snore? |
| A: |
This is a common occurrence in chihuahuas, it is attributed to their short muzzle Casper's snore's load enough to wake the house up, it incredibly funny when we have visitor no one can believe that such a small dog can make that much noise. Chihuahuas can also make snorting and grunting noises when they are playing or just investigating a new smell. This is perfectly normal for chi's

| Q: |
Why does My chihuahua shiver? |
| A: |
This is again is a trait of chihuahuas, it usually is a communication of some sort, they could be scarred, or unsure of something or someone. They may just be cold. Young dogs often shiver after they have been feed (even if the meal is hot). Shivering generally caused by the fact the the chihuahua is so small its body temperature can change very quickly, shivering is a way for there body to compensate for this difference. Please do make sure that in the winter months that your chi's is warm and cosy, it doesn't take much for your little dog to catch a chill. You will notice that chi's love to bury themselves under the blankets, or in the warm weather to bask in the sun even if the spot is only big enough to plonk there bottom on. You can buy jumpers for your chi's, or if you are feeling artistic why don't you knit yourself one using the jumper pattern we have on the site. [Back to top] |
