Q: Can anyone show his or her Chihuahua?
A: Yes anyone can enter a show as long as there dog is Kennel club Registered.

Q: How old must your Chihuahua be to enter a show?
A: Your dog has to be 6 months old, they are not allowed to enter a show before this age, even if it is a day before its 6 month birthday, the kennel club is very strict on this.

Q: Do you need to have special training before you enter?
A: You should get your dog to walk on lead and they should get used to people touching and looking in its mouth.

Q: Where do I find out about the dog shows?
A: You can get 'Our Dogs' or 'Dogs World' paper from your newsagents. Dog shows are advertised in these.

Q: How do I enter my dog in a show?
A: Read show advert page and ring secretary for schedule.

Q: How do I groom my dog for a show?
A: Your dog should always be clean and coat comb or brushed the way the coat lays not back combed.

Q: Do I need any special Equipment and where would I buy it?
A: You need a 'slip lead' this is a collar and lead in one, it looks like a piece of string and small brush and com for last minute beauty touch ups.

Q: Do I need to bring anything with me to the show?
A: Small bottle of water and titbits for your Chihuahua. Food and drink for you as buying a meal could be expensive.

Q: What classes can I enter?
A: Age classes are - 6 - 9 months minor puppy, 6-12months puppy, 12- 18 months junior, all this is explained in the show schedule, which is obtained for the show secretary (see no.5)

Q: What is a limited show?
A: This is a good show to start with, there are mixed classes and no champions can enter. There are lots of beginners as well as old timers using these shows to see how their dogs go. It is a relaxed enjoyable show.

Q: What is an open show?
A: These put on classes for different types of dogs so you compete against your own breed. There is more competition at these shows.

Q: What is a champion show?
A: These shows are to qualify for Crufts or stud number or winning the cc.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Charges for limited shows are about £2 to £3 an entry. Open shows about £3-£6. Champion shows , are £16 - £20 a entry per class reduced fee for further class.

Q: How would I know if my dog were good enough to show?
A: This takes practice and a good eye, you will learn with experience.

Q: If don't know anyone there, will I still be welcome?
A: Yes people will talk and help you, don't be afraid to find a friendly face and ask.

Q: What do I do when I get to the venue?
A: To find your ring ask if you are not sure. There will be a secretaries table there somewhere.

Q: Where should I sit?
A: There will be seating next to the ring. At some shows your dogs have to be put in boxed areas to keep gangways clear.

Q: Am I allowed to walk my dog around when I am not in the ring?
A: You can take your dogs for exercise.

Q: Am I allowed to give my dog food in the ring?
A: This a hard to answer you should not bait dogs, I am sure I have read this but most people over look this rule and do give titbits in the ring.

Q: What can I take into the ring with my chi?
A: Anything you want to as long as it doesn't disturb, attract or annoy other chi exhibitors.

Q: What will I be expected to do when I get in the ring?
A: The judge will tell you what to do. You put dog on table in turn, and then the judge will tell where to walk your dog in the ring.

Q: How will I know if I have won?
A: The judge will place you first; you will be given a red card from him.

Q: What will I win at a show?
A: Your prize depends on what the show is offering, it is usually a card or rosette.

Q: How many classes can I enter?
A: You can enter as many classes as your dog is eligible for according to the schedule.

Q: Are there any classes I can't enter?
A: You can not enter your dog into a bitch class if you have a dog etc.

A: All first prize winners are called back in at the end of the classes.

A: Taken from the first prize winners of your breed.

Q: How do I win a championship certificate?
A: The cc winner at a championship show is taken from the class winners there is a dog and bitch cc winner.

Q: When is my dog classed as a champion?
A: When he has 3 challenge certificates (cc) under 3 different judges.

Q: How can I enter crufts?
A: You have got to have won first place in a qualifying class at a championship show, first to third in open class or "reserve cc" or "cc".
